 YU (President Noh Seok-kyun) bestowed an honorary PhD to Former Chairman of the National Assembly Kim Su-han (85).

 YU President Noh Seok-kyun bestowed an honorary PhD in law to Former Chairman of the National Assembly, Kim Su-han, for his contributions to the development of Korean politics at the main auditorium on the 3rd floor of the Law School Library at 11 a.m. on the 15th.

 At the ceremony, YU President Noh Seok-kyun said, "Former Chairman of the National Assembly Kim started as a spokesperson for the National Opposition Committee to Degrading Diplomacy to Japan and spent over 50 fifty years until becoming the current chairperson of the senior advisor group to the Saenuri Party, and was the cornerstone of national development at the center of politics in Korea." He also added, "Using his devotion as a role model, we will also strive to become human resources who contribute to the development and reunification of Korea."

 In response to this, Former National Assembly Chairman Kim said, "It is an honor to receive a honorary PhD at my alma mater after 60 years since graduating," and added, "For the past 60 years, Korea has achieved democratic and economic development unprecedented in the history of the world. I am convinced without a doubt that YU and my juniors at YU will play pivotal roles in the development and unity of our country."

 Former National Assembly Chairman Kim graduated from the YU Department of Law in 1953. In 1967 he first set foot in the 7th National Assembly and served six terms in the 8th, 9th, 10th, 12th and 15th National Assembly. In the 15th National Assembly, he served as the chairman of the National Assembly who is the leader of the legislative branch. He is currently serving as the chairman of the senior advisor group to the Saenuri Party.

 At the 10th National Assembly elections held in December 1978, he ran for Gwanak-gu, Seoul and gained the most votes with 212,061 votes, and made a record with the biggest landslide victory by leading with a gap of over 141 thousand votes.

 When Mr. Kim was a senior at the Daegu Normal High School (currently Gyeongbuk High School) in 1943, he was expelled because of his involvement in a case of erasing the Japanese flag. In 1964 he was the spokesperson of the National Opposition Committee to Degrading Diplomacy to Japan, and devoted his life to the nation and to representing the people from early in his life.

 He also served as the chairperson of the 97th Inter-Parliamentary Union Congress held in Seoul in 1997, internationally spreading the development of Korean politics and the reputation of the National Assembly in his efforts for cooperation between parliaments and assemblymen of countries around the world, while looking for ways to solve international issues. Due to his efforts, he became the first civilian to receive the Korean National Mugunghwa Medal, the top honorary medal, in 1998.

 Meanwhile, at the ceremony, Korean Constitution Assembly Chairman Mok Yo-sang, former National Assemblymen Shin Gyeong-shik and Shim Wan-gu, Yeungnam School Foundation President Lee Cheon-soo, Natoinal Assemblyman Kim Jang-shil, Yeongnam Ilbo President Sohn In-rak, and Gyeongbuk Ilbo President Han Guk-seon were in attendance. President Park Geun-hye also congratulated Mr. Kim's reception of the honorary PhD in law through a congratulatory telegram.
