Spring is feeling even warmer with the scholarship donation relay by YU alumni for their juniors with the new semester.
At 1:30 p.m. on the 30th, Hi Tech Textiles Chairman Lee Yong-hwan met with YU President Noh Seok-kyun and donated 250 million won asking that it be used for his junior students at YU. Chairman Lee enrolled in the Department of Textiles Engineering in 1970 and also donated 130 million won in 2007. YU used the 'Lee Yong-hwan Scholarship' and has been selecting three students to offer 1 million won in scholarships per student every year for a total of 35 million won to 35 students so far. From this year, two sophomores will be selected every year among those with financial difficulties and provide full scholarships until the graduate. This year, Kim Se-hyeon (19, sophomore in the Department of Textile Engineering and Technology) and Park Ji-young (19, Department of Clothing and Fashion) were selected for the scholarships.
Chairman Lee said, "I know that it might be hard to study in difficult situations, but I hope that you always remember that your seniors and school will always support you, so I hope you fight through it."
On the 27th, another alumni donated over 60 million won in scholarships for his juniors. The Choi Hyeok-young Scholarship Foundation (President Choi Hyeok-young) has been giving scholarships out of love for his juniors for the fourth straight year.
Mr. Choi Hyeok-young (73) enrolled in the Department of Civil Engineering in 1963 and has been giving scholarships for his juniors every year from 2012. He has donated over 19 million won to eleven students for the past four years. The scholarship recipients receive full tuition scholarships and one million won for textbooks per semester until they graduate. Recipients this year are Kim Myeong-geon (23, Business Administration, junior), Jung Ji-eun (22, Medicine, junior), Kim Yu-ju (20, English and English Literature, junior), Kim Cheon-ya (24, Materials Science and Engineering, sophomore), Ryu Gyeong-hyeon (21, International Economics and Business, sophomore), Cho Hyeon-woo (19, Civil Engineering, sophomore), and Bae Shi-hyeon (19, International Economics and Business, sophomore) for a total of seven students. Kim Myeong-geon, Jung Ji-eun and Kim Yu-ju first received the scholarship from Mr. Choi in March 2014 when they were sophomores and are receiving it for the second straight year.

Meanwhile, Mr. Choi established the Choi Hyeok-young Scholarship Foundation in November 2013 to systematically continue scholarship programs for more of his junior students. Including the 100 million won donation for the development of YU in 2007, he donated a total of over 290 million won for development funds and scholarships, thus continuously practicing love for his school and juniors.
There is a department where alumni teamed up to provide scholarships for the 10th year. The Yeungnam Saemaul Scholarship Foundation (Chairman Choi Wae-chul), which was founded by alumni of the Department of Regional Social Development (currently Saemaul and International Development), held a ceremony for giving scholarships to junior students for the 10th year on the 29th. By giving 30 million won in scholarships to 30 junior students in the department, a total of 127 million won was given in scholarships to 131 students in 10 years.
Furthermore, a new alumni who just started her career also participated in the donation relay in scholarships for juniors. After passing her English teacher examination in January, Kim Sung-hye (23) graduated from YU in February and began working at Waryong Middle School in Daegu. She set a great example by donating her entire first month's salary to YU. On the 17th, Maruchi Korea CEO Kim Gyeong-rok (38), who enrolled at the YU Department of Physics in '95, donated baseball goods valued at 15 million won to his juniors at the YU baseball team.
