<Our land of Korea, Coloring on Screen, 2909X1970mm, 2016>
Artist Ahn Dong-il (33) from YU was selected as a promising artist by the Samsung Art Gallery, Leeum, and was invited to the 'Art Spectrum 2016' Exhibit. 'Art Spectrum 2016' is a new artist exhibit held biannually by Samsung Art Gallery Leeum and it is an exhibit that receives high attention from the art sector.
This year, in order to reflect more diverse perspectives, a recommendation committee comprised of the Leeum contemporary art curators and outside recommenders selected 10 teams after holding discussions. In addition to Ahn Dong-il, Kim Young-eun, Park Gyeong-geun, Park Min-ha, Baek Jeong-gi, Okin Collective, Optical Race, Lee Ho-in, Jane Jin Kaisen, and Choi Hae-ri were selected.
Artist Ahn Dong-il will put on display at this exhibit the painting <Our land of Korea> that is based on Korean paintings by gathering stamps and images issued from 1961 to 1979, and <Elegant World>, which is a photo of the 'Dongsangmun' located below the statue of 15 great figures that was erected as part of the Patriotic Martyr Statue Project from 1967 to 1971.
Mr. Ahn said, "<Elegant World> and <Our land of Korea> were works about my father" and added, "I wanted to show my father as the head of the family through <Elegant World> and express the life of my father and my father in my memory through the economic life in the days of my father's youth with <Our land of Korea>."

Mr. Ahn graduated from the YU School of Fine Arts (eastern painting major) and earned his master's degree majoring in Korean painting also at YU Graduate School. He is active in his works by holding solo and group exhibits in Seoul and other regions. In 2012, he participated in a public project called <Park: Breathing> (Arko Art Center, Seoul) that contains the thoughts of people about 'parks'. In 2014, he was selected as Young Artist of 2014 by the Daegu Culture and Arts Center.
Meanwhile, 'Art Spectrum 2016' will be held at the Seoul Samsung Art Gallery Leeum until August 7.
