‘Smart Attendance System’ using Bluetooth communication between ‘Classroom  PC – Student Smart Phone’
Improved education convenience such as attendance checks to improve satisfaction of students and professors
Pilot run in first semester of 2018 and full-implementation from second semester

YU (President Sur Gil-soo) developed its own ‘smart attendance system’.

YU began developing the smart attendance system through the university information processing center in order to substitute the current electronic attendance system and to improve the education management for students. The system developed by YU is an attendance system using the Bluetooth Dongle installed at the lecture desk PC in the classroom and the app installed in the student’s smart phone.
Up until now, students used the electronic attendance system where students would scan their student ID card on the reader installed at the entrance of the classroom. With the smart attendance system developed by YU, it is now possible for students to check attendance at their desk in the classroom simply by installing the electronic attendance app on their smart phone. Most students who participated in the system test during the winter season semester last year said it was much more convenient to check attendance.

The smart attendance system is linked to the YU general information system. Students can check their attendance or apply for attendance or absence directly through the general information system. Professors can also check student attendance and also manage cancelation or addition of classes.

YU tested the ‘smart attendance system’ in two classes during the winter season semester last year to improve the Bluetooth scan program and smart phone app. Plans are being made to test-run the system on 10 classes in the first semester of 2018 and then all classes during the summer semester, and then implement it school-wide starting from the second semester.
YU President Sur Gil-soo said, “This was meaningful in the university’s technologies were used to develop a reliable and convenient attendance system.” He added, “We will continue to use YU’s excellent technologies to construct a smart campus infrastructure that students, professors and other members of the university can utilize easily.”
