The Hangok Medical Scholarship Association (President Joo Sang-woo) donated 100 million KRW as development funds to YU.

In the morning of the 10th, Professor Joo met with YU President Choi Oe-chool expressing his will to donate 100 million KRW to help with the development of the university. The Hangok Medical Scholarship Association pledged to donate 20 million KRW annually for five years starting this year for a total of 100 million KRW.

The development funds donated by the scholarship association will be used for research support in the medical science and health sectors and for constructing infrastructure. The scholarship association has been delivering scholarships to YU students since 2012. A total of about 140 million KRW in scholarships were provided to about 100 students up until last year.

The Hangok Medical Scholarship Association is a scholarship foundation established by the deceased father of YU School of International Studies Vice-Dean Joo Sang-woo (Professor of Mechanical Engineering) for educational and academic development in the medical sectors. Vice-Dean Joo is engaged in the scholarship projects as the president of the association and is also taking part in medical development projects in a variety of other fields as well.

Professor Joo said, “I wanted to succeed my father’s work and contribute to the development of domestic medicine. I understand that YU is currently spending a difficult time due to many environmental changes. I will continue to provide support in hopes that the medical and health sectors can continue to progress and help improve the quality of human life.”
