<High-ranking persons of Cambodian parliament and governments visited YU and had discussions on the measures for cooperation in Saemaul international development.>


High-ranking persons of Cambodian parliament and governments visited YU (President CHOI Oe-chool).It is intended to have discussions on the measures for cooperation in Saemaul international development with YU that has the expert with construction of an academic system in Saemaul development area and to strengthen exchange relation between Cambodia and YU.


  In the afternoon on the 15th, 12 persons of main governmental ministries and offices including Suos Yara (Cambodian Parliament Member, Chairman of Foreign Affairs of Parliament) and Cheunboran Chanborey (Adviser of Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation) visited YU again. Parliament Member Suos Yara takes in charge of Chairman of Foreign Affairs of Parliament and is evaluated as a next-generation leader of Cambodia. Especially, Parliament Member Suos Yara is known to be a close associate of Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen and to have strong influences in Cambodia.


On that day, Parliament Member Suos Yara met CHOI Oe-chool (President of YU) and said, “It’s an honor for me to visit YU that concluded MOU with a local college of Cambodia and is leading educational Korean wave in Cambodia through activation of Saemaul international development education and establishment of Korean Studies Research Center. I hope expansion of exchange to various areas to help national development over the exchange relation in educational area which has been connected until now. I want YU to play a role to expand practical relations between both countries.”

  As a reply, President CHOI Oe-chool commented, “We will support in full for operation of joint degree courses with Cambodial local colleges and more active exchange and cooperation. Furthermore, we will play a role to improve friendly relationship and to expand exchange and cooperation area between both countries. This year is a meaningful year, 75th Anniversary of YU. YU intends to take a new leap to cultivate talents for contributions in human society. We will play the role of a university to make a foundation for joint prosperity of global village.”


President CHOI Oe-chool was commissioned as an advisor of Cambodian Prime Minister since 2014 and takes in charge of governmental policy advisor on various projects implemented in Cambodian farm development area.As main persons of Cambodian governments and parliament visited YU and had direct discussions with President CHOI, it is expected that practical exchange will be rapidly expanded at the levels of governments and parliament as well as Cambodian local colleges.


  Meanwhile, it is the second time that Cambodian governmental high-ranking team visited YU. In 2014, deputy minister level persons of Cambodian main governmental ministries and offices including Ministry of Agricultural Development, Ministry of Education, and Ministry of Public Projects and Transportation, etc. as well as Yim Chhayly (Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of Agriculture and Agricultural Village Development Committee) visited YU and asked advises on transfer of Saemaul Undong and establishment and operation of Saemaul College in Cambodia. Since that time, YU is having active discussions on establishment of Department of Saemaul Economical Development and implementation of plural degree system, student exchange program, and international joint researches with Royal Phnom Penh University and Western University of Cambodia.
