An international student from Indonesia currently studying at the YU Graduate School will receive an academic scholarship from the National Policy Research Center under the Italian Ministry of Education, Universities and Research.
He is Rachmad Bastian Megantoro (25), who is currently in his third term in the graduate school of materials science and engineering. He was selected as a winner for an academic scholarship from University of Turin and the National Policy Research Center 'INRIM' (Istituto Nazionale di Ricerca Metrologica) under the Italian Ministry of Education, Universities and Research, who hosted the international symposium at University of Turin from June 30 to July 5.
A total of 5 were awarded the scholarship. They were chosen through fierce competition of 100 to 1 in which over 500 applicants competed in. Megantoro was the only Asian winner and will receive a 350 euro scholarship at the opening ceremony of the international symposium. On July 4, he will also make a poster presentation on the computer simulation results and development of light weight new materials (5052 aluminum) that applied 'Differential Speed Rolling' processes, which have recently become a hot issue in the academic world. Furthermore, with this research, he will place his name as an author in the September issue of the SCI-level journal 'Journal of Alloys and Compounds' that is receiving considerable prestige in the materials and chemical engineering sector.
Mr. Megantoro graduated from the University of Indonesia and enrolled at the YU Graduate School in March of last year. He is currently working on his master's degree at the Department of Materials Science and Engineering 'Plasticity Control and Mechanical Modeling Research Lab' (academic adviser Professor Ko, Young Gun). The University of Indonesia is Indonesia's top national university that was ranked 64th in the '2013 Asian University Ranking' that QS, a University Rankings organization of England, recently.
Mr. Megantoro happily said, "I decided to study at YU after hearing from a friend who was studying at YU and had the opportunity to publish his research in the global arena. I finally made my dream come true." He added, "I want to thank my professor and colleagues who helped me study and grow."
Meanwhile, the YU School of Materials Science and Engineering 'Plasticity Control and Mechanical Modeling Research Lab' is a multi-national research lab where professors and students representing the 5 countries of Korea, Indonesia, Iran, Syria and India research together. Professor Ko, Young Gun (37) who is leading the lab said, "Thanks to our excellent human resources from various countries, our lab's competitiveness is becoming stronger," and added, "this is the power of Collaboration beyond borders."
